2013 Ithaca Oktoberfest Celebrates Finger Lakes' German Roots

Fall is the perfect time for festivals.  And October is the perfect time for GERMAN festivals!  The Finger Lakes region would like to invite everyone to the Ithaca Oktoberfest on Saturday October 26, 2013 at the Downtown Ithaca Commons from noon until 6pm!  Just 11 miles from the Inn at Gothic Eves, this is a great fall festival to enjoy during your Upstate New York getaway here at the bed and breakfast!

And why not have an Oktoberfest in the central Finger Lakes Region?  Save for one, all counties west and directly south of Cayuga County boast German as their largest ancestry group.  In fact, Germans make up the fifth largest ancestral group in the entire state of New York.  So it only makes sense that we celebrate this part of our local heritage!

The event is hosted by both Downtown Ithaca and Kilpatrick’s Publick House.  And like so many area events, you can be sure that area breweries will be prominently featured!  In fact, local microbreweries will try their hand at winning the event championship for best beer!

Sauerkraut, kielbasa, pretzels, and possibly schnitzel and spatzle noodles will surely be featured foods, along with local favorites (using local ingredients whenever possible).  Wineries will also put in an appearance, offering tastings of their best fall flavors.

Of course, music will be prominently featured at the event as well.  While the 2013 lineup has not yet been announced, last year’s performers included local bands Mike Brindisi and the New York Rock, Erik Caron Connection (hailing from Ithaca College), and The Notorious String Busters.

Tickets are available now through the Downtown Ithaca Alliance by calling 607-277-8679.  Two levels of tickets are currently available: the 20 drink tickets and 10 food sample package is $30, and the 10 drink tickets and 5 food sampling package is $17.  Drink samples are either two ounces of beer or one ounce of wine… and please either bring a designated driver, or plan to stay until closing!  Food tickets can be purchased separately for the designated drivers and non-drinkers, and of course you can purchase larger portions from many of the vendors!  Tickets will also be available for purchase on-site.

Of course, your cozy room at the Inn at Gothic Eves will be ready for you when you return to the bed and breakfast.  And maybe an evening dip in one of our Jaccuzzi tubs would be the perfect way to round out a wonderful day!

Even if you aren’t of German heritage, there is so much to appreciate about Germany’s food, music, dance, and dress.  Why not come experience it all right here in the Finger Lakes?
