The Cayuga Lake Wine Trail is a collection of 17 wineries along a beautiful stretch of the Finger Lakes, in the same area where The Inn at Gothic Eves is located. One of the most popular wineries along the route, less than three miles from the Inn, is Americana Vineyards.
Upon arriving don’t be surprised if you’re met by the Vineyard’s official greeters, Max and Rubie, two friendly canines that evoke Americana’s friendly and unpretentious attitude.
The Winery is one of the original members of the Cayuga Trail and one of its most prolific, producing up to 20 different wine varieties. Head to the main building, a lovely restored 1820’s barn that was rescued from demolition, to enjoy a sampling. For $3, you can choose six wines to try, or you can purchase a bottle to pair with cheese and crackers—also available there—and enjoy a picnic on the grounds.
Americana Vineyard produces wines that range from dry to sweet. Popular choices include Crystal Lake, a semi-sweet wine made with Niagra grapes that offers a refreshing kick; deep burgundy Baco Noir that has hints of dark cherries and raspberries with a peppery finish; and the award-winning Pinto Gris, with soft notes of apple and pear. The staff is vey knowledgeable and happy to help match their wines to your taste.
Several years ago, the winery opened the Crystal Lake Café which serves dishes created with fresh local meats, cheeses, produce and dairy. Menu items here include soups, sandwiches, burgers and some very yummy desserts made with wine.
