Just this week, Finger Lakes vintner Hosmer Winery announced that their 2012 Single Wheel Riesling has received yet another win: the 2014 International East Meets West Wine Challenge Double Gold award!
While Hosmer has been growing grapes since 1970 for sale to other wineries, it wasn’t until 1985 that Cameron and Maren Hosmer decided to begin producing their own wines. Since then the winery has enjoyed growing recognition for its products, with the Double Gold being the latest in a long line of honors. Held this past February 19-20, the International East Meets West Wine Challenge was held in Sonoma County, CA, the event pits the winners from both the West Coast Wine Competition and the East Coast Wine Competition against each other until winners are found. This year’s competition awarded 25 Double Gold awards, with Hosmer’s Riesling entrant taking one of these coveted honors.
This Double Gold is just the latest in a growing list of awards given to the 2012 Single Wheel Riesling. Since its release in December, the vintage has already won including a score of 87 from Wine Spectacular, Silver in the Finger Lakes International Wine Competition, and Silver in the New York State Fair Wine Competition! We imagine that this is just the beginning… The young Reisling has been described as having a “razor sharp” aroma and lively and refreshing taste profile. And if you know Reislings, these are words that every winery tries to earn for theirs!
