It’s been 29 years since Swedish Hill Winery started producing their quality wines, and we’re happy to say, they’re not slowing down. In fact, they keep expanding—the family now also owns the Goose Watch and Penquin Bay Wineries—and the quality is exceptional. Swedish Hill was named the 2015 winery of the Year for the Eastern U.S. at two separate competitions.
Current owners, Dick and Cindy Peterson, built on a business started by Dick’s parents who planted the first vines back in 1969. Today their son Dave and his wife Jean also work at the winery.
Visitors can take a tour during the summer and early fall (Memorial Day through October) to learn about the vineyards, winery history and winemaking techniques, visit the press facility, and of course taste some of the wines. Swedish Hill makes a wide selection of wines including award-winning Gewürztraminers, Chardonnays and Cabernet Francs. Most of their varietals have won awards at either regional or national shows, a testament to the company’s superb winemaking. You can sample the wines in the Tasting Room, which is open year-round.
Guests who will be visiting the Inn on the first weekend of November, can stop by Swedish Hill for its Sparkling Wine & Dessert Festival. The all-day event offers tastings plus a delicious complimentary dessert. While there, you can also check out the Winery’s gift shop—the holidays are just around the corner!
