Hike to Taughannock Falls

There’s no doubt that the towering drop of Taughannock Falls is a sight to behold.  From a distance, you’ll marvel at the sharply rising 400-foot tall limestone bluffs, and delight as the water plunges 215 feet over the cliffs to the gorge below.  Taughannock Falls is the tallest free-falling waterfall east of the Mississippi, and though it has less volume than Niagara Falls, it is taller. There are hiking trails to both the gorge below and the rim above, allowing you to enjoy this powerful beauty from a variety of angles. The Gorge Trail will lead you 0.7 miles into the gorge towards Taughannock Falls. It’s an easy hike, but the rocks can sometimes be slippery, so exercise plenty of caution and stay on the trail.  Enjoy capturing a picture-perfect view of the falls from this trail.  On the top, you’ll find the north and south rim trails, which can connect to make a loop.  They are both moderate trails that travel approximately 2.75 miles total and offer great views of the waterfalls and gorge below.
